Commercial Construction Laborer

Job Overview


The Commercial Construction Laborer performs physical labor tasks on commercial job sites in support of skilled trades, superintendents, and project managers. This role is responsible for maintaining jobsite safety, assisting with construction operations, and ensuring work areas are organized, compliant, and production-ready.


Key Responsibilities


Site Preparation & General Labor

  • Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment

  • Assist with site layout, material staging, and mobilization

  • Perform demolition, debris removal, and jobsite cleanup

  • Dig trenches, backfill, compact soil, and assist with concrete placement

Trade Support

  • Assist carpenters, concrete crews, steel erectors, and other trades as directed

  • Measure, cut, and assemble materials under supervision

  • Install temporary bracing, barricades, and protection systems

  • Operate basic hand and power tools

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow OSHA regulations and company safety policies

  • Maintain housekeeping standards and hazard-free work areas

  • Participate in safety meetings and toolbox talks

  • Wear required PPE at all times

Equipment Operation (if qualified)

  • Operate skid steers, mini excavators, compactors, and other light equipment

  • Maintain and clean tools and equipment

  • Maintain productivity consistent with project schedule

  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols

  • Demonstrate reliability and strong attendance

  • Maintain professional conduct on client-occupied or high-visibility sites


Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred

  • 1+ year construction experience preferred (commercial experience a plus)

  • Ability to lift 75+ lbs regularly

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • Reliable transportation to job sites

  • Ability to follow instructions and work within a team


Preferred Qualifications
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification

  • Basic blueprint reading skills

  • Experience with concrete, framing, or site work

  • Equipment operation certification


Physical Requirements
  • Frequent lifting, bending, kneeling, and climbing

  • Standing and walking for extended periods

  • Working at heights or in confined spaces when required


Reporting Structure
  • Reports To: Project Superintendent / Foreman


Work Environment
  • Active commercial construction sites with exposure to noise, dust, heavy equipment, and variable weather conditions.
